about

By Woody Guthrie; commissioned by the Bonneville Power Administration in 1941, Woody wrote this to the tune of "Wabash Cannonball." This huge dam across the Columbia River was part of the Roosevelt's 'New Deal' program to provide employment during the great depression. We've boogied it up a la Jerry Lee Lewis, with John's mandolin and slide adding a country feel. It ends with a quote from "Happy Days Are Here Again."
